A Resource for the Health Insurance Community, Case Managers
and Governing Bodies
The public requires and deserves assurance that those providing orthotic and prosthetic services and care are qualified to provide the appropriate services.
In the same way, insurers and payors need accurate and effective criteria on which to make fair reimbursement decisions. Medical and health care professionals including case managers need similar information to make referral decisions.
As there is no national licensure for O&P providers, states are responsible for setting the education, training, and testing standards for orthotists and prosthetists. Only eleven states currently have licensure laws for O&P; therefore, professional certification continues to be the national standard used by insurers and Medicare.
This section is designed as a resource for insurers, regulators, licensing boards, case managers and the medical industry to keep up to date on O&P advancements, changes, and news, as well as a resource to understand current O&P current credentialing.
